Hi there!
As we're about to start a new sub-topic (music) within unit 2 (free time, interests), I thought it would be fun to open a thread about, well, music.
Undoubtedly, one of my lifetime passions, music, and more specifically Rock music is one of the most important things for me, and the main reason I became interested in English; my gateway to it, in fact.
Being a record collector, I have tried to be unhindered by musical predujices and narrow-mindedness, and rather than being limited to a music genre (heavy metal, hip hop, alternative rock, electronic), I try to be open to new sounds and artists so long as they are original, innovative, catchy or just fun. I try to have a comprehensive vision of the history of Rock music and I make sure my record collection reflects such comprehensiveness.
Anyway, if it comes to choosing my current favorite song, and despite my quite varied musical tastes (from Punk Rock to 60's Psychedelic music, Classic Rock, 70's Progressive Rock- my latest obsession- or, as a kind of guilty pleasure, 80's Synth Pop music), if I have to single out an earworm that I can play to death, the title now goes to Judas Priest's "Breaking the Law". Favorites of the past have included Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper", Aphrodite's Child's "The Four Horsemen" or Metallica's "No Remorse", all of which I might have declared at some point "the greatest song ever", so make sure you check those out too.
But currently, there's something about "Breaking the Law" which makes it pretty eligible for #1 song for this humble servant: the hummable melody of its memorable riff, its powerful drive, its rebellion-inducing lyrics, Rob Halford's always great vocals... I dunno, it's a superb song, it is so uplifting and empowering that it makes me wanna jump, raise my fists and smash things up. I guess its message may be somehow juvenile (therefore ephemeral), and it's been quite long ago since I ceased to be a teenager (almost 20 years ago), but I definitely refuse to grow old and boring, and "Breaking the Law" never fails in bringing out the heavy metal kid in me.
Here you are:
I want to know which is your current favorite song and why! Don't forget to post a comment (in the comments section, duh) with the song you like the most at the moment, and why.
Enjoy!
Well, I could say I like all kind of music from opera up to rock, but my favorite song is YOU SHOULD BE DANCING, due to that I'm a BEE GEE fan and they make me feel full of energy. As well I have other favorite songs, such as THRILLER sung by Michael Jackson or THUNDER of ACDC
ReplyDeleteHello, I like many different types of music but romantic is my favourite. My favourite Singer is Alejandro Sanz. I love his songs because when I'm stressed it helps me to relax and my favourite song is "My friend". I usually listen to the radio on my way to work.

ReplyDeleteHello guys!
ReplyDeleteIt´s a difficult task, because I love music, I used to listen Spanish music, but now I try to listen to English music to improve my English. I like a lot of kind of music and I like many songs, such us, Are you gonna be my girl (Jet), Passenger (Iggy pop) or Young and beautiful (Lana del Rey). But maybe my favourite song is "Take me out" by Franz Ferdinand, because it´s a funny song which puts me in a good mood. If you want to hear, here I leave a link:

To sum up music is very important in my live. From my point of view all the important moments of life must be accompanied by great song.
Have a nice Saturday!
Hi people! What's up?
ReplyDeleteI've always loved music and my musical taste has changed a lot so I'm not sure I can answer this question easily.
For example, when I was a teenager I didn't use to listen to Rock music, but I've grown to like it because my oldest brother was listening to it all the time (he introduced me to Rock music). That's why "Dream on" turns out one of my favourite songs. This song was written by Steven Tyler when he was fifteen years old and it encourages me to fulfill my dreams.
I'm into many different musical styles such as rock, pop, jazz or R&B, although, I can't put up with electronic music, for instance (it sounds too weird for my liking).
I'd rather listen to songs which cheer me up like "Losing my religion" from REM, "Respect" from Aretha Franklin or "I will survive" from Gloria Gaynor.
Anyway, if I had to choose a song, I'd say "Don't stop me up" from Queen, because it always makes me feel better (I'm partial to Freddie Mercury's voice) despite the fact it's based on drug abuse, and I'll tell you a secret; when I'm alone at home (what is quite unusual), I play this song and I sing it as loudest as I can.
See you next week
I'm sorry there's a mistake on my previous comment; the song is "Don't stop me know".
ReplyDeleteBye!
Well, I have to say that although I'm not a rocker woman, in some moments of my life my heart has beaten with some songs of this bands: Bon Jovi, Europe, Gunes N' Roses or Nirvana, but I'm afraid Rock Music isn't my kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteFor me music is mainly happiness. I have many favourites songs and choose only one it is very difficult but well, i.e. I drove me mad (completely) with Soraya and her 'Self Control' in 2006 and her record 'Ochenta's' and 'Ni una sola palabra' Paulina Rubio. In fact, I have happy memories of both because I had bought my new car and they sounded in it every moment. I was be able to listen 'Self Control' 20 times without a break when I left work and I drive home. I guess that some driver thought I was crazy looking at me stopped in a red light, hahaha.
Also I loved 'Bailando' Enrique Iglesias and any song 'catchy or just fun as you say' e.i 'Si necesitas reggaeton dale' J Balvin.
At the moment, I have to say that I love 'Lost frecuencies feat Janieck Devy- Reality-'
'How deep is your love' Calvin Harns & Disciples.
'Don't worry' Madcom ft Ray Dalton.
The song TV advert FIAT 'Marvin Gaye' Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor- It's super catchy-
'Sugar', 'Animals' Maroon 5
'All of me' John Legend.
Ah, I forgot it Paulina Rubio 'Mi nuevo vicio', Prince Royce 'Back it up' Jennifer Lopez feat Pitbull...
If you want to get happiness five minutes, listen them!
Enjoy!

Hello guys!
ReplyDeleteI don’t have any favourite song but I’m keen on 90’s pop music because it remembered me when I was a teenager.
Now I try to improve my English, so I listen English music (Calvin Harris, Adele, Alicia Keys)
I think, music has been very important in my life because it helped me when I was sad.
See you next week.
MARINA GARCÍA VIDAL
ReplyDeleteActually I don’t have any particular favourite song. Along my whole life I had a few songs I’d liked most depending on the time I was living. For example in the 70s I was passionate about the music of Bob Dylan. I think he is one of the most famous singer-songwriters of all time. My favourite songs were `Like a Rolling Stone´ and `Blowing in the wind´ (against the war in Vietnam), even though I couldn’t understand a single word!
In the 80s I was crazy about The Cuban Nueva Trova. Silvio Rodriguez and Pablo Milanés were my favourite singers.
But, above all the song which has always thrilled me is `Imagine´ by John Lennon. Its lyrics encourage me to imagine a world at peace.
Being almost 50 years later still updated due to the situation the world is living today. A week ago a German pianist plays Imagine at piano near Bataclan, the theatre that was the scene of the bloodiest attack in Paris.
Imagine all the people living life in peace… Imagine?
Well, I really love all kind of music, but I prefer Rock music. My favourite song is "Avalancha" because I'm really into Heroes del Silencio and this song remind me a very good time when I was younger. I also like The Smashing Pumpkins - "To forgive" a very good song too and "Bullet with Butterfly wings"- Nirvana, U2,...a lot of good groups in Rock music.

ReplyDeleteHello guys!!
I´m really into different kinds of music. At home when I am on my computer I usually listen to classical music or a soundtrack of the movie "Untouchable" because, I saw the documentary a few years ago and then, I also saw the film and I felt in love of the soundtrack.Since then, when I want to relax I always listen to the Untouchable´s soundtrack or Yo-Yo Ma or something like that.
But in summer I like to go to the electronic or house summer festivals with my friend or my brother because I enjoy them a lot.
And when I go out on weekend I usually listen to pop music or Indie music (whatever kind of music) except Reggaeton I can´t stand this kind of music,it´s dreadful for me.Seriously I really heat it.
Hi everyone!
ReplyDeleteI think that music is indispensable in my life, so that music is always on my mind. When I am stressed, loved, disloved, happy, upset, etc. music wait me.
Nowadays, I am really into different kind of musi, such as: National 90´s Pop (Loquillo, Los Rodríguez, MClan), International Pop (Madonna, U2, Blur), National and International Rock (Extremoduro, Héroes del Silencio, Gun,´Roses Nivana, ACDC). and Punk American rock (The Ramones, Green day), too. My favourite group is U2, although I don´t have any favourite song, I only have special songs: "A contracorriente" (El canto del loco´s song) because I remember good younth facts when Ilisten to; "There´s no other way" (Blur´s song) because when I drive and listen to this song, I fell so good.
I have been changing my different kinds of music since I was a teenager, although I hope not to change any more.
Hi guys!!
ReplyDeleteFor me, the most beautiful songs that exist are writing for my husband. In his free time, he plays his guitar and begins to compose. The lyrics are beautiful and they are very special to me. He has written three songs.
But my favorite song is ADORO by Armando Manzanero. He sang this song the day we were married in the church. Here I leave a link:

DeleteAlthough I´m not keen on music, more and more, I´m listening to songs in English because so I can improve my level in this language. Last week, I was listening to songs I had forgotten it which I can´t get it of my head such as I don´t want to miss a thing by aerosmith (this song I use as blackground music when I study) or a song I´ve played several times in a row is the soundtrack of the movie Dangerous Mind by Coolio
